Personality and tastes

Every NPC is rolled at spawn and never changes. This is what makes two villagers with the same job behave differently.

Tastes

Each NPC rolls:

  • 2–3 favourite foods and 2–3 hated foods
  • 2–3 favourite items and 2–3 hated items

That is up to six things she dislikes. The interaction panel shows the whole list as icons, not a sample — showing only the first one made NPCs look like they did not hate something they very much did.

Giving a favourite lands well. Giving something hated costs you affinity and sours her mood.

Tastes collide

The pool of foods is small, so two NPCs hating the same thing is common. If a gift goes badly with someone you did not expect, open the panel and check her actual list before assuming a bug.

Mood

Mood is the plumbob above the head: NEUTRAL, HAPPY, ANGRY, SAD, SCARED, SLEEPY, EXCITED, BORED.

It reacts to what happens: eating a favourite dish, being insulted, a good conversation, doing a hobby. Mood is contagious — a happy NPC talking to a sad one can lift her.

Any need dropping below 10 makes her miserable regardless of everything else.
